Life cycles

Egg to chick

We've been doing lots of exciting work that we'd like to show to you.

The chicks have now gone to live on a farm where they can have lots of fun and we will miss them but we have made some chicks ourselves! We used different materials inc: paper plates, feathers and paint. We have also spent time talking about them and have used mark making to record our thinking.

Our nature working wall...

Seed to plant

We made our own flowers out of plasticine using lots of different colours and lolly sticks.

We are working hard with our writing. We have made marks for our names on the leaves.

Can you see our bug drawings, caterpillars and our beautiful butterflies?

Egg to butterfly

We are creating our own mini beasts soon...

Mini beasts

Have you been on your mini beast hunt?

What did you find?

WELL DONE!

Lots of busy investigating and great to see some extra visitors to nursery!

So far, we have had snails ( lots of them), slugs, beetles and ladybirds.

Our 'create a bug' work using drawing and plasticine has been great fun!

We are developing our fascinations further when exploring outdoors and have decided to develop our indoor role play area into a garden.

Problem solving and persevering

Our new friends!

As you know, we've had some new friends come into school...

Nine lovely, fluffy little chicks.

We've been to visit them and have been lucky enough to hold them (with help from the adults)

Here are some pictures.

We were very gentle and took turns to stroke and hold the chick if we wanted to.
We have been very busy making our own chicks (cutting, sticking, fixing, painting, gluing and mark making) and drawing and writing about them.

We are going to take home a pretend chick to look after. Have you thought of a name for yours yet?

Our 'Well done' tree

We can put a butterfly on the tree for special things...

Being kind and friendly
Working really hard
Being helpful
Taking turns and sharing
Having a go and keeping trying
Keeping our Golden Rules

Lots of us have already put butterflies on the tree for trying hard, being helpful and 'WOW' moments!

So many friends are being helpful and trying hard to look after our classroom.

Great effort and lots of concentrating and keeping on trying!

Busy, busy, bees outside!

Making cakes for everyone.

"I'm digging here."

Curious about objects and tools - "What does this do?"

Fun with friends!

Here we are exploring.
Our challenge was to find five flowers and use the device to take a photo of them. We listened really well. Careful counting everyone!

Here are our photos...

Fun with flower shapes outside. Exploring colour, space and size.

The eggs have arrived!

'It's very exciting! We went to see them in groups today (Monday).

We went to check on them again today (Tuesday).

Some of our comments:

"They are golden."
"Are they open yet?"
"The chicks are going to hatch, aren't they?"
"It's gonna crack out."
"We have to be quiet, don't we?"
"Shall we count them?"

We have noticed that the eggs are looking a little bit bumpy.

Look what has happened over night and early this morning. We have been to see the chicks this morning. Two have hatched so far...

Another one has hatched. Now, there are three of them.

"Cheep, cheep"

During the day, a few more hatched out of their eggs. So far, there are seven little chicks.

We have all visited them twice and some of our grown ups came too.

We are really looking forward to handling them, maybe tomorrow...

We are going to think of some names for them too.

Altogether, there are nine chicks.

We will be holding them soon...
