Fairy Tales
We have been sharing stories and using story language in our play to support our communication and language skills and writing skills.
Links to: Communication and Language- Listening and attention, understanding and speaking; Expressive arts and design: Being imaginative; Literacy: Reading and Writing
Our role play area has changed into a 'Fairy tale house' (children's choice) and we are creating our own stories and trying to take on the role of a character from the story, thinking about: what, when, who, where, when and how?
We have used mark making to represent our favourite characters and are keen to mark make independently during play.
We have also been using small world props to re-tell the story of 'Hansel and Gretel' and used mark making to record what happened in the story.
More learning outdoors: Team work!
Developing positive relationships
Using resources to develop creative thinking and ideas. "This could be..."
Being motivated, trying new things, solving problems...
"We need to add more to make it longer."
All aboard, where are we going today?
"We are going on an aeroplane to somewhere far away."
Exploring measures, including length and height
"I can make this taller now."
Developing physical control and coordination when using equipment.
"It isn't a boat. We need to take food with us. There's not much room."
Imagining and building a story into play
"We're nearly there!"
Persevering
"Now, it's just right."
Turn taking
Using mathematical language: first, second, third..., before, after, next...
Behind, in front, forwards, backwards
Following instructions
Developing body control and safety awareness (self and others)
Communicating and developing ideas
"Shall we change it?" "We could put more here." "It looks like a rectangle now."
